The Local Table is a cooking competition with a difference. Long before anyone begins to cook, there must be a whole lot of planning, planting, growing, hunting, gathering, fishing, gleaning, drying, preserving, trading and bartering.
Simply put: All of your ingredients must be sourced from and prepared in Paekakariki, New Zealand.
The Local Table runs over many months to give time for entrants to prepare for their final presentation. During this time, there will be several events and workshops for inspiration, learning, dish planning, mentoring, connecting with suppliers and sharing.
The next competition final will take place in February 2015 in Paekakariki this time we will be celebrating summer. Judging will be by a panel of experienced chefs and gardeners. This competition is open to Paekakariki locals of all skill levels. There will be a children’s section also. Entries will be judged on aspects such as quality of ingredients, preparation, cooking finesse and creativity.
